Connecticut

Welcome to Connecticut - known for fall foliage, loafers, and home to my favorite pizza joint - Modern Apizza in New Haven.

I have traveled all over this state from the city to the mountains. Like most people, my favorite time to visit is the fall. The leaves turn the landscape into a beautiful array of colors that can't be missed!

Fun facts:

  • To be called a pickle in this state, the said pickle must bounce. Why you ask? Well, it dates back to a 1948 newspaper article titled “Pickles Lack Bounce, Two Men Arrested”. These two men were accused of selling pickles unfit for human consumption. The food commissioner, at the time, discussed ways to check for pickles and eventually his words were transformed into “If it doesn’t bounce, don’t eat an ounce”. So even though there are a lot more regulations in place for pickled food, this will always be the go to in the state’s history!
  • The State animal is the Sperm Whale.  During the 1800’s, Connecticut ranked second in the American whaling industry.
  • The first speed limit in America was introduced in Connecticut.  With top speeds of 12 mph on city roads and 15 mph on country roads.  So the next time you get pulled over for speeding you can thank Connecticut for that…
