Maryland

Welcome to Maryland - home of the blue crab and it's partner, Old Bay seasoning. Maryland's major city is Baltimore and boarders our nation's capital, Washington D.C.

Maryland has the some of the cutest "towns" (they're really just smaller cities by classification but because of the northeast state of mind and how congested it is these seem more towns by comparison) that you can find in the US.

Fun facts:

  • Maryland’s American Football team, The Baltimore Ravens are actually named after Edgar Allan Poe’s famous poem, The Raven. That was something I definitely did not know! I wish they would incorporate that into the branding more. Something like “Guess who’s knocking at your chamber door?! The Ravens!” *the team rips through the banner onto the field* I’d be about it.
  • Maryland has an island of wild horses! Assateague Island is known for having two heards of wild horses, consisting of approximately 150 animals each. Though it is unclear how these ponies originally arrived on the island, some say by shipwreck in the 1600s, they are quite a view to see!
  • The Ouija board was originally invented in Baltimore, Maryland. Though “talking” boards have been used throughout human history, In 1901 William Fuld took the idea and patented his own variant naming it the Ouija board. The idea of the Ouija board being patented in Maryland is hilarious to me because for their Pennsylvania neighbors, it is still illegal to tell fortunes.
