North Carolina

Welcome to North Carolina - known for The Great Smoky Mountains, the beaches of the Outer Banks, first in flight and Cheerwine - the state soda.

North Carolina takes about 3 hours to drive the highway the full length of the state. To the left of the highway you'll get to see their wild mountain ranges and to the right you'll have ample beaches to explore along the coast!

Fun facts:

  • North Carolina is the best place in the US to explore ship wrecks. Between storms and the string of barrier islands, this area has sunk more than 5,000 ships. This area is perfect if you want to snorkel or dive and have the feeling that you are searching for buried treasure.
  • The Venus Flytrap is native to North Carolina. To visit, check out Carolina Beach State Park and Green Swamp Preserve.   North Carolina is also home to the blue lightning bug.  A bug flashes blue instead of yellow and can only be seen during their mating season from Late May to early June.
  • North Carolinia is called the Moonshine Capital of the World. Moonshining was the direct result of the country’s prohibition. To distribute the alcohol, often times the dealers had to modify their cars so they could outrun police. These practices eventually lead to the birth of NASCAR. So booze and NASCAR really do go hand in hand.
