Florida

Welcome to Florida - known as the sunshine state and home of the Florida orange!

Florida has abundance of wildlife from armadillos to manatees, wild sponges, alligators, crocodiles and plenty of birds in between. Florida is also known of being the state of retirees and snow birds, which are people who "fly" down to escape their home state's winter.

Fun facts:

  • There are no dinosaur fossils on record in Florida, but the state does have the most golf courses in the US totaling over 1,300. So it could be that the dinosaurs just hated golf or it could be do to the peninsula being completely submerged underwater during the dinosaur age… I think it’s the golf thing.
  • There’s only one place in the world where you can find crocodiles and alligators living together and that’s in Florida’s Everglades National Park!
  • Every year, Florida tosses dead fish over the Alabama Stateline. In late April beachgoers flock to the Flora-Bama Lounge to throw a dead mullet (the fish of choice) as far as they can into Alabama. Why you ask? It’s just a Florida thing. This tradition started in 1985 and all proceeds go to local youth charities plus after the event, the dead mullet is donated to Alligator Alley or the Gulf Coast Zoo for Alligators to enjoy. Not gonna lie. I kinda want to go.
