Wisconsin

Welcome to Wisconsin - home of cheese and custard. They do both marvelously, and honestly I would love to go back right now to enjoy both.

Wisconsin-ers love their cheese so much that they have a cheese castle, along with making their NFL team's mascot cheese. The fans themselves are called cheese heads. And I don't think anyone in the NFL dislikes the cheese heads.

Fun facts:

  • To protect their farmer’s, Wisconsin banned yellow margarine in 1895. White margarine was allowed to be bought but not yellow. The law also prohibited serving margarine to students, patients, or inmates as a substitute for butter. The ban of selling yellow margarine was lifted in 1967 but there is still a ban on serving margarine at restaurants within the state. So if you go out to eat in Wisconsin you better bet that’s real butter.
  • Every year in July, Wisconsin hosts the largest experimental aviation event in the world – the EAA fly-in in Oshkosh.
  • Dungeons and Dragons (DND) was invented in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. If you’re not familiar with the game, DND is a fantasy tabletop role playing game. The first version of the game was a 50 page rule book that came out in 1973.
